Elisabeth "Bess" Wilde, M.D. was an associate of the Third Inspector. She was played by Virginia Maskell in Season 7.
Adventures with the Third Inspector[]
When the Inspector was put on unofficial leave after the events of "The Crime Sports", Dr. Wilde was engaged as his personal physician. Together, they engineered the peaceful migration of the Eocenes to the Epsilon Eridani star system, solved the kidnapping of three extraterrestrial envoys, and prevented an insane general from destroying the galaxy with an army of mutant locusts.
While the Third Inspector's post-metamorphosis hypochrondria could be exasperating, Dr. Wilde's bedside manner was rather frosty. Although the Inspector often talked up her pre-eminence as a physician back on Earth, she never really offered a medical opinion during their travels (unsurprising, considering how many aliens and few humans they encountered). With her adherence to the Hippocratic Oath, Bess was a committed pacifist compared to the Inspector, a philosophical difference that eventually culminated in her departure. After only a handful of adventures, she returned to Earth to continue her private medical practice in Oxford.
