An Inspector Spacetime novel

Talk Page TalkButton

Hundreds of novelisations of the Inspector Spacetime series have been published by various presses, the majority based on its original 1962–1988 run. Several fan-run publications have published unofficial novelisations of stories official publishers were not able to secure rights to.

Novelisations[]

Novelisations based upon individual Inspector Spacetime serials were first published in the mid-1960s, the first being Inspector Spacetime and the Thrilling Case of the Blorgons, a loose adaptation of the show's second serial, "The Blorgons". Inspector Spacetime novelisations became something of a tradition beginning in the early 1970s when they were published on a regular basis, initially based upon the then-current Third Inspector's episodes, but soon expanding to include all past Inspectors as well.

Original fiction[]

The earliest original Inspector Spacetime spin-off fiction appeared in children's annuals from 1963, and over the years many short stories, novellas and full-length novels have been published. The earliest original fiction were short stories that appeared in the official BTV Inspector Spacetime annuals, which were published from 1963 to 1984. During the programme’s hiatus in the 1990s, a series of original mystery-adventures featuring primarily the Seventh Inspector was issued under license. (Fans joked at the time that the real mystery was how they could charge £6 for a paperback, but they now fetch ten times that amount on the collector’s market.)
