The Extraterrestrial Overwatch Police, commonly abbreviated Exo-Pol, is an intergovernmental organisation facilitating international police cooperation in the prevention of alien crime. As disclosed in "Remnants Redux", it was founded in 1957 and expanded over the subsequent decade.

London Branch[]

Metropolitan Police Chief Inspector Irvine Leith was appointed Superintendent of Exo-Pol's London Branch following his exemplary inquiry into unearthly volcanic activity in the subway system ("The Underground of Doom"). He replaced his precdecessor on the taskforce after its failure to act on the events of "The Peacemakers".

In Leith's later enquiries, he would be assisted by Sergeant Tom Fenton. During the early 1970s, the Fourth Inspector and DI Gary Mulligan served under him, investigating plots by the Blorgons, the Circuit-Chaps, the Sergeant, and many others. Exo-Pol appeared regularly, but less frequently, in investigations by subsequent Inspectors during the classic era, such as "Five Inspectors, One Time Booth" and "Cattlefield". With the new series, it has returned more often, including in "Humans of Westminster"/"The Tenth Crusade", "The Xmas Rebellion", "The Blaring of Horns"/"First of the Infinity Knights", "The Rostraan Ruse"/"The Curing Sea", "Turn Right", "World of the Living", and "The Last Minutes".

Mary Sue Brown was a civilian photojournalist with close but unofficial ties to the organisation. Her photography archive was said to be top secret (but she kept a slideshow of her years with Exo-Pol in her basement). She had her own adventures with Exo-Pol in her spin-off series, The Mary Sue Predicaments, including the crossover episode "The Life of the Inspector".

The 2012 episode "Squared" revealed that Exo-Pol was now under the control of Irvine Leith's son, Kurt Leith. Kurt would return in the 50th anniversary episode "The Night of the Inspector" to help the multiple incarnations of the Infinity Knight who had banded together. Exo-Pol would appear in later episodes with The Twelfth Inspector "Life In Hell", "The Sorcerer's Superior" against The Sergeant, and "The Asterozoid Evasion"/"The Asterozoid Eversion" against the Asterozoids. In 2016, politically motivated alien intercept notices from the Chinese and Russian branches caused friction with the UK's, but Exo-Pol returned in the episodes "Remnants Redux" and "The Unvanquished" and the 2021 special "The Power of Arrest of the Inspector" with The Thirteenth Inspector.

Currently Exo-Pol is headquartered inside Tower Bridge.

Spin-off Series[]

Returning showrunner Anthony Bonham Pease, hoping to recapture the popularity of Peacemist: Nicer Post and The Mary Sue Predicaments, created a spin-off series simply titled EXO-POL, which began airing in 2023.
